Summary

The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course prepares EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers to respond to and manage casualties in civilian tactical and high-threat environments. TECC is based on the principles of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and adapts military lessons learned to civilian emergency response, with a focus on reducing preventable deaths resulting from traumatic injuries.

The course emphasizes patient assessment and treatment across the three phases of tactical care:

  • Direct Threat Care (Hot Zone)
  • Indirect Threat Care (Warm Zone)
  • Evacuation Care (Cold Zone)

Participants learn evidence-based strategies for hemorrhage control, airway management, chest trauma, MARCH assessment, casualty movement, triage, and the management of patients during active violence, mass casualty incidents, and other high-risk events. The course combines didactic instruction, hands-on skills practice, patient simulations, and scenario-based training designed to enhance provider safety and improve patient outcomes in dynamic environments.

TECC is endorsed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, aligns with current Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (C-TECC) guidelines, and is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

Target Audience: EMTs, AEMTs, Paramedics, nurses, physicians, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other first responders involved in the care of trauma patients in high-threat environments.
